Here is some useful information found on the web. It is written by Susan D'Astoli.

Monday is Memorial Day, a day when we remember U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. At sunrise, across the country and here in the Valley, American Flags will be raised to the top of flagpoles and then lowered half way down to honor and remember those who died in the service of our country. And at sunset, the flag will once again be raised to the top and lowered back down, to be received by waiting hands. If you are flying an American flag this weekend, there are some things you should know. The flag should never touch the ground or part of any other object. If you want to display a flag on Memorial day here are some points from Commander Andy Jaime of American Legion Post 44 in Scottsdale.
-To display a flag flat on a wall, it should be suspended with the blue field on the left and the top as you are looking at the flag.
-To display a flag behind a speaker at a podium, again the blue field should be at the top and left and above the speakers right shoulder.
-If you are going to fly the flag at night, the flag must be lighted at all times.
-When a flag is old, worn and tattered it should be retired.
Jaime says old flags should be taken to a local VFW hall or American Legion Post.
